Immanuel Open Mic
The Immanuel Presbyterian Church, a landmark of Wilshire Blvd. in sunny Los Angeles, does a lot of wonderful stuff for my community and they're helping me to give back by hosting a community open mic! Mics happen at 7 PM on Thursdays at 3310 Wilshire Blvd! Enter by the little staircase on Wilshire. If steps present a challenge, we have a more accessible entrance under the awning on Berendo, right next to the parking lot.
We welcome unusual acts, but standup and music are the easiest to run with our mic setup. Like most events at the church itself, we're hoping to offer it as a bilingual English/Spanish thing so we all can practice our language skills - todo es de peluche.

ABBY DENTON: MY FAVORITE LOSER Live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
In 1904, the first modern Olympic marathon was run in los Estados Unidos's deep south at the height of summer. Due to the heat, the muddy water and the dust in the air, half of the runners were hospitalised. In fourth place came humble, working-class postman Felix Carvajal, a little man with a big mustache. Abby Denton's show breaks down the politics of 1904 to explain why Felix Carvajal is, in fact, one of her favourite men ever to walk the earth, who deserves a statue in every park.

MY BROTHER, THE CAR
I had a great time doing the Hollywood Fringe in 2024 with the show MY BROTHER, THE CAR. The Hollywood Fringe team are nice people, I had a great time helping out behind-the-scenes at the festival in 2025, too.
My Brother, the Car was a meditation on family and how we remember loved ones through stories. Mainly it's about my grandma's bewildering certainty that the sylvan glen in northern England where she lives is dogged by knife-wielding maniacs, hiding among the thistles. I don't know what she's worried about. She lives in Eden. In my neighborhood, in Los Angeles, a guy once waved a machete at me just to say hello and ask for my phone number. Shocking stuff. But the show got great reviews so I hope to mount it with better audio recording sometime soon.

COMEDY FESTIVAL APPEARANCES
Look, we all know festivals are money sinks, right? Goodness knows my banker has been telling me that for years. I was at Laugh Riot Grrrl in LA this year, though, and Burning Bridges a couple years before that.
